Reports from all over southern England describe widespread gale damage. ! Several deaths occurred as a result of , the collapse of walls and masonry and I other objects being hurled from the tops l of buildings. Several sm&il steamers were blown ashore. A gale caused considerable damage 1 along the coasts and inland. Many ships are in distress. : The Queen Mary was unable to land 300 passengers and 1500 bags of mail at j Plymouth, and carried them on to I Cherbourg. Several small steamers are ashore in the Channel.
