WHY SITE WAS CHOSEN MINISTERS EXPLANATION •U.lH**. fit.*., Amiociai ion i DARGAVILLE, 22nd November. I'ollowing representations made by the mayor, Mr Raymond Gibson, and the deputy mayor, Mr W. R. Sanders, to the Minister of Public Works, Mr Semple, when they visited Wellington recently to discuss the proposed site for a new railway station. Mr Semple has replied at length giving reasons for adopting the Valley Road site. lie says that lie has gone thoroughly into the matter with the Railways Department and his own department, and is convinced that the •site adopted is the best that can be obtained. The council is now inviting the Minister to visit Dargaville further to discuss the proposition. Meanwhile the work is being vigorously proceeded with. Tenders were recently called for earthwork construction, and the route has been fenced throughout. More than 100 men are engaged on the job. which is expected to be completed by November. 1929.
