MILITARY IN CONTROL

ROAD AND RAILWAY TRAFFIC IN PALESTINE BIG REBEL CLEAN-UP HERALDED I O.P A.-Bv Electric Telegraph—Copyriehtl JERUSALEM, 25th October. The military are taking complete control of road and rail traffic in Palestine from 29th October. After that date travellers must obtain a military pass. The purpose of this step is believed to be to keep the population indoors, enabling a big rebel clean-up all over the country. Meantime, Abdul Rahim, the Arab leader, has issued a manifesto ordering Arabs to cease unprovoked attacks on British troops and police, saying that henceforth they must be defensive, although the “holy warriors” are abjured to continue sabotage activities and attacks against Jews’ properties. Arab quarters regard the new order as a symbol of goodwill to Britain, but the authorities regard it merely as a temporary bowing to superior force.
