MAINTENANCE OF ROCKS ROAD WALL

TO BE UNDERTAKEN BY HIGHWAYS BOARD At last evening's meeting of the Tahunanui Town Board the chairman (Mr C Chamberlain) announced that the Main Highways Board had decided to be responsible in fulure for the maintenance of the sea wall at Tahuna in addition to the Rocks Road. Mr Chamberlain stated that this information had been conveyed to him by Mr T. A. Johnston (district main highways engineer) who stated that the Main Highways Board realised that the wall was an integral part of the road and should therefore be taken over In expressing apreciation of the action of the Main Highways Board, Mr Chamberlain stated that in the past the seawall had been a source of worry to the Town Board, and largo sums of money had been spent in repair work. However, the liability was no longer theirs. Mr Chamberlain said that in discussing the matter, with Mr Johnston he had pointed out that the wall was at present in need of repair, while ashphalt loosened by the sea near the wall needed renewing.
