NATIONALISTS WIN WAITAKI SEAT DIFFERENCE OF TEN VOTES FINAL FIGURES IN OTHER ELECTORATES I Unite 1 Press Association! WAIMATE, 25th October. The count in the Waitaki electorate has resulted in Mr D. C. Kidd (National) being elected with a majority of only 10 votes over Mr D. Barnes (Labour), the sitting member. The election night figures gave Mr Kidd a lead of 62 and this was increased to £3 on a recount of votes cast in the polling booths. The absentee and postal votes were cast as follows: —Absentee: Barnes, 255, Kidd 188, informal 1; postal: Barnes 85, Kidd 80, informal 1; declaration: Barnes 3, Kidd 3; seamen'c: Barnes 1. The number on the roll was 9751, and the total number of votes cast was 9368. The final figures are:— D. C. Kidd (N.) 4668 D. Barnes (L.) 4658 Informal
Majority for Kidd 10 PALMERSTON NORTH PALMERSTON N., 25th October. The official count in the Palmerston North electorate resulted in the majority of Mr J. Hodgens (Labour) over Mr J. A. Nash (National) being increased by 158. The final figures are:— J. Hodgens (L.) 8093 J. A. Nash (N.) 5975 Informal 63 Majority for Hodgens 2118 Mr Hodgens received six declaration votes, 450 absentee votes, 138 postal votes and one seaman’s vote. Mr Nash received four declaration votes, 331 absentee votes, and 145 postal votes. Three declaration and two postal votes were informal. WAIPAWA WAIPUKURAU, 25th October. The final count in the Waipawa electorate has reduced Mr A. E. Jull’s majority from 470 to 446. The final figures are: — A. E. Jull (N.) 5070 H. M. Hall (N.) 5100 Majority for Carr 2196 CLUTHA DUNEDIN, 25th October. In the Clutha electorate the official count has reduced the majority of Mr J. A. Roy (National) over Mr H. K. Mr Edie received 109 postal votes, 280 absentee votes and 14 declaration votes. DUNEDIN SOUTH DUEDIN, 25th October. In the Dunedin South electorate the election night majority of 4119 for the Hon. F. Jones has been increased to 4214 on the official count. The figures are:— F. Jones (L.) 8987 E. P. Aderman (N.) 4673 Informal 69 Majority for Jones 4314 Mr Jones received 196 postal votes, 273 absentee votes, nine seamen’s votes and four declaration votes. Mr Aderman received 101 postal votes, 183 absentee votes, one seamen's vote and one declaration vote. MARLBOROUGH BLENHEIM, This Day. The official count in Marlborough increases the majority of Mr E. P. Meachen from 1364 to 1525. The final figE. P. Meachen (L.) 6579 E. F. Healy (N.) 5054 Mr Meachen received 305 absentee and 136 postal votes, and Mr Healy 174 and 126.
