MAGINOT LINE
NOW FULLY MANNED RESERVISTS CALLED TO COLOURS FOR “INDEFINITE PERIOD” (Received Bth September, 11.15 a.m.) PARIS, 7th September. The Maginot Line is now fully manned from Luxemburg frontier to Switzerland. Most of the reservists were chosen from those who shortly would have been called up for the normal period, but whereas their papers would have specified the number of weeks, they are now called to the colours for “an indefinite period.” The first test of anti-aircraft syrens in thirty-one districts around Paris occurs at noon to-morrow. The population is warned against alarm, as the measures are purely precautionary. ALL LEAVE CANCELLED NAVAL RATINGS RECALLED (Received Bth September, 9.0 a.m.) LONDON, 7th September. The Paris correspondent of “The Times” says that all leave in France has been cancelled. All troops in Marseilles and naval ratings at Toulon have been recalled. All French Ambassadors and Ministers at present on furlough have been instructed to return to their posts immediately.
