DISTRIBUTING £500,000
TO Till: DAIRY FARMERS It will be recalled that in my last broadcast address from Wellington. 1 directed the attention of the public to the. fact that the Guaranteed Price was considerably below the price real- ; ised on the London market. I also I pointed out that a surplus of some- ! thing like £2.000.000 would be made on j the full season’s working. This money belongs to the dairy farmers of New Zealand,, and no-cne c'*e has any right to it. The Prime Minister has told the dairy farmer that the present halt million surplus will be handed over to the farmer some time before the election. This is the first time this has been said. The farmers will not be deceived again. 1
| What I want to impress on the farmers is the fact that this money is , theirs by right; it is the balance of what their butter and cheese was sold i for on the open market. If the Government is really in earnest in its desii'e to help the dairy farmer. it will do just tw) things:— First, it will stop taking the farm worker off the farms, by inviting him to join the Public Works. Secondly, it will honestly tackle the problem of increased costs that the ; farmer is finding such an intolerable | burden.
