MOTUEKA HARBOUR BOARD

MR C. H. MACK AY ELECTED CHAIRMAN A special meeting of the Motueka Harbour Board wps held on Wednesday evening for the purpose of electing a chairman ,for the ensuing term, and for the setting up of Finance and Works’ Committees. Those present were :*Messrs Horatio Everett, C. H. Mackey, D. L. Drummond, P. B. Calder, A. Rowling, L. B Robinson and R. P. Rowling. The secretary, Mr H. N. Glover, occupied the chair. Mr I). L. Drummond said it gave him great pleasure to nominate Mr C. H. Mackay as chairman. Mr Mackay had had long experience in Harbour Board affairs and was thus eminently suited for the position. Mr R. P. Rowling supported the noun ir.ation, and Mr Mackay was elected chair-

man, there being no other nominations. Mr Mackay, in returning thanks, said he felt diffident about taking the chair especially in viyw of the fact that in the past ‘ the Board had hud such excellent chairmen as Mr Horatio Everett. A welcome was extended by the chairman to the new Board members—Messrs It P. Rowling and L. B. Robinson. Mr Robinson assured the Board of his best services at all times, and Mr Rowling said that he would work in the interest of the ratepayers as a whole. The personnel of the respective committees was as follows : Finance (four members): Messrs H. Everett, L. B. Robinson and R. P. Rowling—a fourth member to be. appointed later. TTorks (three members): Messrs P. B. Calder,, D. L. Drummond and H. Everett. Mr Drummond suggested that a subcommittee be set up to confer with the foreman on urgent matters in connection with harbour construction works. He contended that the committee that had acted in a similar capacity during the past term had saved the Harbour Board many pounds. The appointing of an Emergency Committee was left to the Works’ ConnnitThe secretary stated that the foreman, * Mr O’Brien, had asked for authority to employ more than six men on the Harbour j construction works. !
