LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT

MAN KILLED IN SOUTHLAND [United Press Association J INVERCARGILL. This Day. Unaware of the approach of a special train from the north at 10.30 o'clock last evening, Mr Harold S. Raines, manager for the past seventeen years of the Edendale branch of Wrighl. Stephenson and Company, while driving a car across a level crossing at Edendale, was struck by an engine and was killed instantly. Mr Raines was the only occupant of the car, which was thrown clear of the line, but he was hurled into the air and suffered extensive head injuries. Mr Raines was a prominent bowler and was actively interested in Eastern Southland affairs He was aged 43 years and leave* a widow and a family of four.
