NELSON PROVINCIAL SCOTTISH SOCIETY

FIRST INGLESIDE OF SEASON The Nelson Provincial Scottish Society held its first Ingleside of the year at Tahuna Town Hall on Monday

evening when a good gathering of Tahuna residents and Scottish members enjoyed a good evening of music and dancing. The Chief (Mr J. Logan) opened the night with a welcoming talk to all those present and expressed the hope that the Inglesides this year would be of the usual high standard and would be attended as well as in the past. He thanked all those residents of Tahuna who had attended to support the Ingleside which was really a complimentary func* tion to those of the seaside suburb who had so loyally supported the Society during the preceding years. The programme was in the capable hands of Past Chief W. Black and Chieftain N. Henderson (also M.C.) and was thoroughly enjoyed. The items were as follows: Recitation, Shirley Kelly; skipping dance duo, Mijsges E. Hunter and J. Howes; recitation, Miss Boy eg; dance (tap), Miss P. McKenzie; song in character, Master Alex Veysey: recitation, Desmond Kelly; Highland reel. Misses B. Henderson and J. Brinks. Masters I. and B. MacKie; Sailor’s Hornpipe. Miss B. Henderson. The music for the dancing, which included a number of popular Scottish dances, was very ably supplied by Begg's Piano Acoordeon Band and was extremely popular. This band under the leadership of Mr W. Gould is a new combination and is using instruments well liked at present by modern dancers. The pipe music was supplied.

by Pipers J. Banks and J. Hay. A vote of thanks was passed to the performers and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne” brought a successful close to the first Scottish Ingleside for 1938.
