NEWSPAPER COMEDY
Yet another newspaper comedy has just been brought to New' Zealand and will be releas d soon. “My Dear Miss Aldrich.” However, the picture loses.nothing by being in the same class as famous pictures like “It Happened One Night.” and those w-ho saw it at a private screening recently predict great success for it. The leads are Maureen O’Sullivan and Walter Pidgeon. with Edna Oliver in an only slightly less i prominent part. Miss Oliver may be remembered as the nurse in “Romeo and Juliet." and Pidgeon was in i "Saratoga.” while Maureen O’Sullivan I has long been established in picture--1 goers’ favour. “My Dear Miss Aldrich” is AmeriI can. smart and gay—an improbable plot J I but romantic enough to make one sigh , as one leaves the theatre. A country school teacher in.ierits a large New York daily. She and the managing editor fall in love, but his affection does i not alter his opinion that women should not be employed as reporters. The girl is of the contrary opinion, and in the j burly burly of the office proves, after some half tragic ups and downs, that she. at least, can gel a “scoop.” Edna j May Oliver adds to the fun with naive : hut forthright comments on all and everything about her. * * * * “Man in the Mirror” is comedy fan-1 tasy.
