This is quite a change from the gloomy tunnel, isn't it? It certainly was for the soldier. He had no idea how it happened, but as soon as he grasped the stone everything went round in a whirl, and the next he knew was that he was falling gently upon the green grass at the edge of a wood. In his hand he still clasped the precious stone. He did not know that the little old man he had left in the tunnel had long been wishing to get possession of the lamp so that he should be free from it’s spell. When he had got it, he just used his magic power to send the soldier back to earth.
