RECORD R.A. WINTER SHOW
KEEN INTEREST AROUSED [By Air Mail—From Our Own Correspondent] LONDON. 3rd March. When the present Winter Exhibition of 17th-century art was opened at Bur- ' lington House, I stated that it was the J best of the whole series so successfully ( run by the R.A. since the War. Ap- j parently this view is supported by ; popular judgment. Because the daily average of attendance at Burlington i House has exceeded anything hitherto I recorded at any of the series of Wifi- 1 ter exhibitions. In eight weeks 87.000 people have passed through the turnstiles, of whom about 21.000 were visi- j . tors from schools, warehouses, and j various big commercial organisations. I These include not only London con- j cerno. but places as far oft as Edin- ] burgh. Newcastle, and Portsmouth. So keen is the interest aroused by this fascinating display of painting by the masters of a golden ai-t epoch that urgent requests are being received by the R.A. authorities to prolong the Exhibition. It has only a few more days to run, however, and the imminence of the R.A. Summer Exhibition makes any extension impossible.
