Native Bats Found News has recently been received in Wanganui that the little native bats believed to be extinct are to be found in the bush bordering the Wanganui river, states "The Post’s” representative. The bats, known to the Maoris as "peka-peka,” were common enough in the old days, and it is interesting to find that they are not on the sadly long list of New Zealand’s extinct creatures. Soccer Teams In the annual report of the New Zealand Football Association, which is to be submitted at Wellington on Bth April, it is stated that during the 1937 season there was a total of 598 teams affiliated to the parent body. Auckland played 152 teams and Wellington 116. There were 325 club teams, 182 primary and 63 secondary school teams and £8 sub-association teams. Empire Plants Should a scheme propounded by Mrs Knox Gilmer materialise, a display of plants from all parts of the British Empire will be made at the Centennial Exhibition. At the last meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture Mrs Knox Gilmer brought the subject forward, and a motion was passed that the Government should be requested to make arrangements for such a display. Progress Illustrated A letter from the Education Department to last evening’s meeting of the Council of Governors of the Nelson Colleges stated: “In connection with the annual report to Parliament, the Minister of Education has directed that wherever desirable photographs illustrating new buildings or any new features of the work developed during the year should be inscribed in the appropriate report.” A request was made in this regard: it being suggested that a comprehensive photograph of the new technical block erected on the site of the College would form a suitable subject for the report. It was resolved that the request be complied with.
