SAFE BATHING SOCIETY FUNDS TO BF, RAISED FOR CONCRETE BATHB [Fro* Out Own Correspondent ’ The Mayor (Mr R. J. L. York), who i presided at a general meeting of the Motueka Safe Bathing Society held in the W.D. Hall, reported on the deputation t- the Hon. H. T. Armstrong. Minister of Labour, in regard to a subsidy for the construction of a concrete swimming bath. The Minister, had, he ’said, offered a subsidy of £4 per man-week, on certain conditions in respect to employment of la hour; and this the Mayor considered a generous offer. To bring the subsidy up ti award rates the society would have to contribute 8s 8d per man per week and the sum required would be approximately £3OO. Continuing Mr York said that, as soon a; the sketch plans were received, they would be submitted to the department for approval. It was suggested that a member of the Swimming Club, in addition to a representative of the Harbour Board, should be appointed to the advisory committee. He was of the opinion that every organisation in the district ‘ was interested in the project and would give whole-hearted co-operation in the raising of funds for the constrtvtion of the baths. It was decided, on the motion of Mrs G. James and Mr C. Blake that the Swimming Club be asked to appoint a represen- ' t.ative on the committee, to go into the question of designs etc., for the swimming bath . Mr York stated that the proposed bath would be 100 feet by 80 feet.

A finance committee was set up and the following members appointed; the president (Mr R. J. L. York) and Messrs F D. Oxley, W. Ovens, Harry Manoy, S. 1 Davies and G. VV. Manifold. Arrangements for the bazaar, to be held Lin Slay were discusser; and it was agreed J that a special general meeting of members together with representatives of societies and clubs interested, be convened early next month to discuss ways and means of ' laising the balance of the money required * for the baths.
