DEVELOPING INTO DISASTER
FRANCO’S SWIFT ADVANCE OVERPOWERING ASSAULTS [United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright 1 (Received 28th March, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON. 27th March. The Hendaye correspondent of "The Times” says General Franco swiftly advanced at the week-end on a front of 125 miles with 200,000 soldiers supported by 300 bombers and fighters, and is still launching overpowering assaults. Villages aj - e falling by the dozens under a deluge of shot and shell, preventing the defenders digging in after retiring.
The loyalist retreat from Aragon, which includes Catalonia’s own army, is developing into one of the greatest loyalist disasters yet suffered. They seem to be incapable of stabilising the line at any point.
