OPENING OF WRESTLING SEASON
WIN FOR MOEN AT AUCKLAND (By Telegraph—Preße Assouiatioul AUCKLAND, 27th March, i Rugged wrestling relieved at intervals by spectacular exchanges was provided by the opening bout of the Auckland association’s season between the Americans Andy Moen and Pat McKay at the Town Hall on Saturday night. The bout, which attracted only a fair attendance, was won by Moen by one fall secured in the seventh round. While Moen’s speed, audacity of tactics and ability to escape from the most difficult of holds won the favour of the crowd, McKay, who early made himself unpopular by resenting the referee’s rulings regarding illegal holds, earned the respect of the crowd for an impressive display. Moen’s fall came as the result of a surprise move shortly after the start of the seventh round. Hanging limply j on the ropes and weakly attempting to defend himself against a barrage of heavy jolts, he seemed to be feeling the effects of a heavy dump. McKay was over-confident in following up his advantage, however, and when Moen rebounded off the ropes and reached low for a dump the former was caught napping, falling heavily and proving an easy victim for a press.
