Townsend for contempt of the House ! of Representatives. Dr. Townsend, originator of the 200-dollars-a-month old-age pension plan, who “walked < .1” on a committee of inquiry in the House of Representatives in May, 1936, and advised several of his followers not to give evidence or obey subpoenas, was in March last given the minimum sentence of 30 days’ gaol and a fine of 100 dollars for contempt of the House. It was against this conviction that he appealed.
