DOGS IN CHURCH

The following story about dogs in church used to be told by Dean Ramsay. At a church in the Highlands the shepherds’ dogs formed half the congregation and used to wait patiently for the long service to end. Immediately the Benediction began the dogs used to scamper about and bark in a most excited manner. The shephtrds. feeling that the services should end in a more decorous manner, made a slight alteration in the service. A strange minister was preaching, and when about to pronounce the blessing he hesitated, as the congregation remained seated. An old shepherd, noticing the minister’s! confusion, looked up to the pulpit and j said, “Say awa\ sir; we're a’ sittin’ to cheat the dowgs.”
