LEGION OF DECENCY APPROVES “EMILE ZOLA”
In advance of the world-wide release "The Life of Emile Zola.” starring Paul Muni, has received high commendation from the American National Legion of Decency. The following letter has been sent to Warner Bros, by Mr.; James Looram. chairman of the Motion Picture Department of the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae:—
"Wc ~ e happy to inform you that your film ’The Life of Emile Zola.’ has been classified by the Legion of Decency and placed on the general patronage list in Class A, Section 1. It was a source of great consolation to us to witness the treatment of this story, which according to the Catholic viewpoint was fraught with danger. It has emerged as an excellent piece of entertainment which should register exceedingly well with the public everywhere. “The members of the clergy who attended the preview with me were greatly impressed with the fine, delicate treatment of a difficult subject. They feel, as we do. that Warner Bros, should be congratulated upon their good taste as exemplified in the presentation of this story. Paul Muni again convinces us. as he did in ‘Louis Pasteur.’ that he )s a perfect genius at characterisation. We trust that the patronage everywhere will justify and repay Warner Bros, for their fine quality of discrimination.”
“The Life of Emile Zola” will have its premiere in Nelson at an early date.
