SWIMMING CLUB
CONSTITUTION ADOPTED Mr Harry Manoy, who was voted to the chair at the general meeting of the newly formed Swimming Club, said there was every indication that the club would meet with success. It was the aim of the Safe Bathing Society to provide permanent bathing facilities, and
swimming baths could, he assured the meeting, be constructed at the beach without any trouble. He had had expert opinion on th esubject—that or Vickerman and Lancaster and others; and. if the Society raised funds by
means- of carnivals. etc., assistance would be forthcoming from the Gov-1 ernment. As he (Mr Manoy) was now' the only remaining official of the Swimming Club, which had functioned some years ago in' the district, he would hand over to the new club a small sum of money, the balance of the assets of the old one. Mr S. Davies, on behalf of the interim committee, reported in regard to the proposed constitution. Mr Cos- j grove had, he said, been in touch wnth j the Nelson Swimming Association and a copy of its rules had been forwarded for their perusal. After the rules had been read it was decided, on the motion of Messrs Vryn Evans and G. Manifold, that the constitution, as read by the acting-secretary, with amendments, as agreed upon by the meeting, be approved. It was also decided that the club's colours be brown and w'hitc and that the subscriptions be: Men ss, ladies 2s 6d. and juniors (under 16) free. Mr Davies, in suggesting that the club should co-operate with the Safe j Bathing Society on Ist February, stated • that the Amateur Athletic Club u'ere | organising ground ‘sports for the gala i and he thought the Swimming Club could help by offering to undertake the ; programme of aquatic events. ELECTION OF OFFICERS The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron. Mr K. J. Holyoake, M.P.; president. Mr A. Adams (subject to his consent): vice-presidents, Messrs G. Riley and S. Davies; club captain, Mr G. Langley; secretary and treasurer, Mr G. K. Cosgrove; auditor, Mr A. L. Kirk. Committee, Messrs M. Parker, L. Goodyer, Gill. Stevenson, and A. 'V. Moverley. Mr Vryn Evans moved and it was. carried, that it be a recommendation to : the committee to co-operate with the Safe Bathing Society at their gala and also that the committee communicate with the Nelson Swimming Association in an endeavour to obtain their assistance on Ist February. The question of a beach patrol and
a bus service to and from the Motueka beach on Saturdays. Sundays and holidays, was left for the committee to axrange.
On the motion of Messrs Cosgrove and Langley it was decided that the secretary of the Nelson Swimming Association (Mr A. T. Bolam) be thanked for forwarding copy of rules of constitution.
Mr Harry Manoy. who did not seek election, offered to help in every way possible and wished the club a very successful season.
