EAST ENJ) BREEDERS’ SUCCESS AWARD FOR CLEANEST LEGS [By Air Mail—From A Special Correspondent] LONDON. 27th November. Some of the finest poultry in England is reared in Bethnal Green, in the heart of London’s East End. Backyard breeders have won prizes in competition with the biggest breeders in the country at all the most important shows. Many interesting varieties were exhibited this week at the annual show of the Bethnal Green Utility Poultry Club. Mr Iladdon. the secretary, specialises in Australorps. He bus won more than 100 "firsts” at various shows.
An amusing story was told by one of the judges. “After one show at Betnal Green,” lie said. "I was asked by an exhibitor why a certain bird has not received an award. I explained that it was not thoroughly cleaned —you cannot leave soap in their wings."
Ever since, the man who tailed (o gain the prize has made an award for the bird with the cleanest legs.
