DUKE OF WINDSOR

MEMBER URGES RECALL

APPOINTMENT TO GOVERNORSHIP LONDON, 7th December. The recall of the Duke of Windsor to England and his eventual appointment to the office of Governor-General of Canada or some other high position was advocated by Mr Wedgwood, a Labour member of the House of Commons, in an exclusive interview.

A year ago Mr Wedgwood unsuccessfully tried to persuade the House to agree to a motion that the oath ol allegiance that members had taken to the Duke when he was King would not be affected by any form of Coronation ceremony.

To-day he assailed what he described as the persecution of the Duke, and urged that ho should be recalled to England immediately. He indicated tiiat he might lead a movement to recall him to take his part in British affairs.

AUSTRALIA MENTIONED

“The appointment of the Duke to a high post would end the present silly persecution,” added Mr Wedgwood. "He should be given some work to do on behalf of the nation. He would be perfectly eligible for appointment as Gov-ernor-General of Canada or Australia. The whole question is whether the people of Canada or Australia would like to have him. If they would there is no reason why he should not be appointed.
