Two men have been arrested and charged with the murder of John Thomas Dempsey, truck driver, whose body was found buried at Kinglake West on 2nd November. The arrested men arc Roy McFarlanc. aged 31 Newmarket. and Francis O'KeefTe, aged 37. North Melbourne. O'KcetTe was arrested in bed at midnight on Saturday. McFarlanc was detained at Beaufort. 100 miles from Melbourne The arrests followed the most intense and widespread investigation in the history of the Victorian Dolice. Dempsey was driving a truck carrying wool valued at £3OO from Bendigo to Melbourne on 11th October, when he disappeared. There was no further news of him or the truck till the truck was accidentally found by picnickers hidden in dense bush at Kinglake West, 42 miles from Melbourne, on Ist November. The following day the body was found buried in a sack near the truck. Police investigations have been made in nearly every part of the State in an endeavour to trace the stolen wool.
