OBITUARY
MR J. HANCOCK, GLENIIOPE
The late Mr Hancock was born at Blue Spur, Lawrence, 45 years ago. He was educated at the Lawrence District High School, was a member of the Lawrence Brass Band, and an enthusiastic member of the Presbyterian Church.
After serving his apprenticeship at a hardware store, he Joined the railway department in Dunedin as a porter. He left that city for the Great War on 25th August, 1915, and was invalided home in August, 1916, resuming duties in Dunedin. He later transferred to the maintenance department as a surfaceman on account of his indisposition, being stationed at Tawanui, Pukitiro, Romahapa, Stirling and later as ganger at Glenhope.
The late Mr Hancock had a kindly disposition and was well liked by those who knew him, and was ever ready to assist those requiring any assistance. He leaves a wife, one daughter and one son. also one sister (Waipou Falls), and a brother at Lawrence.
