MONTHLY MEETING lIELO ARRANGEMENTS FOR JUMBLE SALE The monthly meeting of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in Burrough House, when devotions were taken by the president. Apologies were received from several members who were out of town and also from some who are on the sick list. Members stood in silence in memory of Mrs Simpson, and sympathy was expressed with Mrs T. A. Field in her bereavement, and also with Miss Pethcrick in her illness. Temperance facts were given showing, (a) how needless is the use of alcohol in pneumonia, (b) the danger to young people in connection with wine parlies, (c) the menace that even slightly intoxicated drivers are to the public. Very fine reports of the District Convention were given by Mrs Lamb and Miss Day, and they were heartily thanked for the trouble they had taken in preparing such full accounts. As the December meeting will be the annual meeting of the Union, it was decided to hold it on the first Tuesday, 7th December, instead of on the second. Arrangements were made for a jumble sale to be held early in December if the hall is available. In response to requests, the District President and the local president will be visiting Takaka on 23rd November to establish a Union there. The meeting will be advertised and all women interesle.’. will be welcome.
