THE CATHEDRAL

THE ENLARGED ORGAN The work of enlarging the Cathedral organ has now been practically completed by Messrs Lawton and Osborne, of Auckland. A complete choir organ of 5 stops has been added, making the organ 3 manuals and pedals; the pedal organ has two stops added, an open diapason of 16 feet and principal ol 8 feet. To the great organ has been added an harmonic (lute, trumpet and twelfth making 10 stop , on this manual. A celeste has been placed on the swell. The electric blower has been doubled in power. The organ originally ot 2 manuals and pedals, was built by Lewis, of London in 1875. one of the old master;: of organ building, and containing a striking line tone in the diapason and flute. It is now ot 3 manuals and pedals, electrically blown, 40 draw stops. 15 combination thumb pistons and pedals and two balanced crescendo pedals, swell and choir, a special feature being the trombe made operable both on the great or choir manual. The old and new metal pipes have been supplied will; tuning slides. The Salter bequest supplied the necessary fund for these improvements. The new additions to the organ will be used for the firs- time next Sunday. 14th November. and at the recital on the following Wednesday evening 17th November, at 8 p.m.. being the occasion of the Annual Choral Festival. The organist, Mr 11. S. Claughton. will explain, if so desired, after the recital, the working of the new stops and accessories.
