WAKEFIELD BOWLING CLUB

OFFICIAL OPENING IN GLORIOUS WEATHER Under glorious weather conditions the Wakefield Bowling Club openea the season on Saturday, a large number of visitors enjoying the afternoon's outing. In his welcome the president, Mr W. 11. Martin, expressed pleasure at seeing such a large attendance and wished them an enjoyable afternoon. In complimenting the green-keeper, Mr Fenn. and the members who had assisted to prepare the green for the season, the president remarked that he had never seen the green looking so wll. In responding to the welcome. Mr Rout (Nelson), Mr Ktohr (Motueka). Mr Poole (Richmond) and Mr Neave (Mapuai expressed pleasure at being present and wished the club a successful season. Owing to the opening of the Manai Club, this club was not represented, but sent a telegram conveying greetings The first kitty of the season was thrown by Master Allan Eden, and the first bowl by the president's wife, Mrs W. H. Martin, being a “toucher.” Afternoon tea was provided by the president's and members’ wives. During the afternon tea adjournment, the president, on behalf of the members, presented Mr H. : ickctts. the past sceeretary. with a bowling bag in recognition of his untiring services for the 13 years he had been secretary. Mr Ricketts suitably replied.
