40,000 ITALIAN VOLUNTEERS OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM ROME (Received 19th October, 10.55 a.m.) ROME, 18th October. An official statement declares that absolutely fantastic figures, creating dangerous hysteria and a war psychosis, are being given abroad regarding Italian volunteers in Spain. “Accordingly it is advisable to state officially that the Italian volunteers number about 40,000 including supply services. This is the truth and there is no fear of denials from any quarter. Valencia’s volunteers are many more,” concludes the statement.
