CANTERBURY CONTEST llv I'clcgraph I’ress Aas<>«iutii>h 1 ASHBURTON, 18th October. The Canterbury provincial band contest was held on Saturday. The Ashburton Silver Band was the only entrant in the B grade. The Timaru Municipal Junior Band won both the quick step, with 2471 points, and the own choice, with 129 points. The Wainrate Silver Band, 2371 and 119 was the only other competitor. There -were six competitors in the pipe bands’ quickstep, in which the points gained were: Ashburon Highland (Handicap 25), 282; Timaru Highland Band (scr.) 278; MacKenzie (31), 264£. For the selection points were: City of Christchurch Highland (scr), 89; MacKenzie Highland (10), 83; North Canterbury Caledonian (13), 80.
