WATER RETICULATION
SOUTH CANTERBURY DOWNS PUBLIC WORKS PROJECT [From Our Own Parliamentary Reporter] WELLINGTON. 18th October. Involving the expenditure of £270.000, a scheme for water reticulation for the South Canterbury downs is to be undertaken by the Public Works Department, according to an announcement by the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, to-day. Tapping the Hengawai River near Albury, a pipeline will be constructed to supply water for stock and domestic purposes over an area of 154,000 acres in the Geraldine, Mackenzie, and Waimate Counties and the Pleasant Point Town District. Six reservoirs will be constructed to hold sufficient water to supply the whole area for two days. In the event of failure of supplies through a blockage in the main pipeline or any of its subsidiaries, provision will be made for supplying every occupied house in the area and for fire-fighting purposes from Pleasant Point.
