CRICKET ASSOCIATION
COMMITTEE MEETING At a meeting of the executive oC the Motueka Cricket Association the delegates to flic Nelson District Association reported that in the Newman Shield fixture, Motueka would play the holders on 7th and Bth January, 1938. In the “K” cup draw, Motueka had been unfortunate in securing the last fixture in March. Takaka, however, who had secured a mid-January date, had been approached with a view to securing a transfer of dates. Advice from the New Zealand Crickel Council had disclosed the fact that last year’s experimental l.b.w. rule was
now a definite M.C.C. ruling and consequently applied to all games. • The chairman (Mr A. E. Fry) reported that. Mr E. Canton, who had been appointed a junior selector at the last meeting, was not prepared to act in that capacity. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Holyoake and Askew, that Mr G. Sturgeon be appointed to fill the vacancy. The questiqn of a senior selector was discussed and was deferred to the next meeting. Correspondence was received from the Waimea Association regarding junior representative games on Laboui Day. Owing to the difficulty that all grounds in the Motueka Association would be in use on that dale, the secretary was instructed to exp lam the position to Waimea and to oiler to send a junior team or teams to Waimea on Labour Day, return games to be played at Motueka later in the season. The hope was expressed that these later games might be “S. T. Rowling” cup fixtures.
