NO DANGER OF POTATO SHORTAGE
SURVEY BY DEPARTMENT TBv Tplcgraph - Press Association! CHRISTCHURCH, 16th September. ‘•There is no danger of New Zealand homes running short oi potatoes,” said Mr R. B. Tennent, Director of the Fields Division of the Department ol Agriculture, to-day. The department had conducted a survey during the last few days, and this disclosed that considerably more than 6000 tons of table potatoes were held in store in the Dominion. This was quite apart from any lines still remaining on farms. When the department was issuing permits for the export of potatoes to Uruguay and the Argentine earlier this year, there were Some, Mr Tennent said, who considered New Zealand was going to be short later on, and the survey recently undertaken was an endeavour to check up on the position. It was now apparent that, with supplies householders already had, this quantity of Dotatoes would meet any likely demands.
