BRANCH FORMED IN NELSON A meeting ol Trades Union executives was held in the Institute rooms, Hardy street, on Saturday evening for the purpose of establishing a Trades Council under the auspices of the New Zealand Federation of Labour. Those present included : W’atcrsiders, Mr Gildcn; picture workers, Mr Turley; N.Z. Workers, Messrs McKenna, Haase, Nuttall. Veilmcr, Brough, Rush : Hotel and Restaurant Workers, Mr Jensen, Miss Mitchell j Fruit and Vegetable Workers, Mr D. W. Brown ; bakers, Messrs Morgan, Maisliall and Paid; Motor and Horse Drivers, Messrs De’Pina. Crossan, Ward, Carvuthers, Hprior, Brewerton, Fuller; General Laboures, Messs Ingam, Flamiigan, Fost, Terry; Butchers, Messrs Grainger, Swain, son; Biscuit Workers, Mr Jones; Shop Assistants, Messrs Mercer, Luminis, Monday, Johnson; Clerical Workers, Messrs Johnson and Mandun; Storemen’s Union, Mr Ward; Timber Workers, Messrs Scott and Simpson; Laundry Workers, Miss Gust; Gold Dredge Workers, Mr Turley; Grocers’ Union, Mr Chapman. Messrs A. De Rina and J. Crossan were appointed chairman and secretary | respectively for the evening, i Messrs A. McLagan and F, P. Walsh, ! president and member respectively of the National Executive, addressed the meeting on behalf of the Federation of Labour. It was unanimously decided to establish a Trades’ Council for the Nelson District and to ask the Federation of Labour to grant a charter to the Council. As a number of Nelson unions have not yet affiliated with the Federation it was agreed that instead of proceeding with the election of officers and executive of the Trades Council an organising committee should be set up for the purpose of securing the affiliation of all the unions in the district As soon as this has been accomplished, and in any ease not later than the first Saturday in September, a further meeting of Union representatives is to be held at which the officers and executive of the Trades' Council will be elected. The members of the organising committee are: President, Mr F. L. Turley; vicepresident, Mr A, De Pina; secretarytreasurer, Mr J. Crossan; and a committee of seven members 1 Miss Mitchell, Messrs D. G. Brown, Brough, Munday, Johnston, Gilden, Swainson. A meeting of the committee is to be held in Fleming’s Buildings, Hardy street, on Wednesday, 28th instant at 7.30 p.m. The meeting concluded with a hearty vote of thanks to Messrs McLagan and Walsh at 9.30 p.m.
