MRS TEDDER Mrs Tedder who passed away recently at Nelson was the youngest daughter of tile late Hon. Joseph Shephard M.L.C. and the late Mrs Shephard of Fernhill run, Belgrove. Ellen Shephard was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne where her father then Mr Joseph Shephard L.L.D. was the Town Clerk. As a very young child (in 1861) she came with her parents, two sisters and brothers, also Mrs Shephard’s aged mother to the Nelson district. Mrs Tedder was the last surviving member of her family. Though engaged in farming Mr Shephard was at one time Provincial Treasurer for Nelson and after having represented the Waimeas in the New Zealand parliament was called to the Legislative Council. For some years Mr Shephard was editor of the Nelson “Colonist.'’ Mrs Tedder’s mother was also highly cultured and their daughter received her education at home. Mrs Tedder was a great lover of literature and was widely read. Most of her life has been spent in Nelson district except for short periods in Wellington and Marlborough. After her marriage to Mr G. E. Tedder (late of South Africa) she resided almost entirely in Nelson city. The late Mrs Tedder was of a retiring and lovable disposition and she made many friends by whom she will be missed After a short service at the residence in Collingwood street, the late Mrs Tedder was buried at the Wakapuaka cemetery. The last rites were performed by the Rev. W. Rowe, St. John’s Methodist church. Much sympathy will be felt for Mr Tedder in the loss of his devoted wife.
