OBITUARY
MR J. F. ALLCOTT The late Mr John Francis Allcott, of Lane street, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 81 years, was born at Hope, Nelson, in 1856, states the “Marlborough Express.” He received his education there, and at the age of 12 he went with his family to Lower Moutere, where he commenced farming activities, and he also carried out various undertakings with his team of horses such as contracting and road work. The deceased took a keen interest in fruit growing and was one of the pioneer growers in the Lower Moutere district. In his younger days he was a member of the Lower Moutere School Committee, and he was also a foundation member of the Fruit-growers’ Board.
In 1912 he came to Marlborough and settled at Islington, where he had resided ever since. He led a rather retiring life since he came to the district, but was extremely popular and wellknown, particularly through his work in visiting and helping sick and aged people. The late Mr Allcott is survived by his wife and family of six—three daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mesdames W T. Crook '.Feilding), and H. A Holdaway (Lower Moutere), and Miss G. Allcott (Islington). One daughter, Mrs W. Parkes, of Blenheim, predeceased him. The sons are Messrs G. J. Allcott (Lower Moutere), M. Allcott (Lower Moutere), and C. F. W. Allcott (Timaru), a former New Zealand representative cricketer There are 12 grand-children.
