M. CHAUTEMPS ASKED TO FORM CABINET
SUPPORTERS TO BE CONSULTED
PARIS, 21st June.
President Lebrun asked the Radical Socialists’ leader, M. Camille Chautemps, Minister of State, to form a Ministry. M, Chautemps reserved his reply until he consults his supporters. M. Blum will also attempt to reconstruct the Popular Front, with the Radical Socialists predominant. If he fails M. Herriot and M. Daladler may be summoned.
M. Blum agreed to use all his influence while the negotiations were proceeding to avert a general strike and financial disorder when the markets open. • President Lebrun seeks to give the new Ministry a tilt towards the Left Centre, thus making,it n.ofe independent of the Communists and win the confidence of. investors.
NEW CABINET COMPLETED (Received 22nd June, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, 2lst June. The British United Press correspondent says it is understood M. Chautemps has completed his cabinet, and he will see President Lebrun later in the day. “LONG OVERDUE” GERMAN PRESS COMMENT BERLIN, 21st June. The press considers M. Blum’s resignation long overdue.
