APPEAL DISMISSED

ILL-TREATMENT OF CHILD (By Telegraph Press Association] DUNEDIN, This Day. In a judgment this morning Mr Justice Kennedy dismissed the appeal of Clara Augusta Rosina Beatrice Jane, aged 59 years, against her conviction in the lower court on a charge of wilfully ill-treating a child, David Kinnaird, aged 4 years, so as to cause unnecessary suffering. His Honour, however, ordered that the fine imposed should be remitted remarking, “It is quite evident that accused was not unkind, and the real explanation is contained in her statement that the children had got on her nerves and she was overwrought by the conduct of the older children.
