GENERAL HERTZOG CAUSES SENSATION FUTURE OF NATIVE PROTECTORATES DISAPPOINTING TALK WITH DOMINIONS SECRETARY (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright! LONDON, 19th June. An angry statement by General Hertzog (Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa) before his departure from England for South Africa caused a sensation at Whitehall and in South Africa. He told a South African journalist that after a long conversation with Mr Malcom MacDonald, Secretary of State for the Dominions,
concerning the future of native protectorates in South Africa he was most disappointed with the results of the talk. He added: “I fear that unless a different attitude is taken the consequences will not be of a pleasant character ”
