TRIBUTES BY EDUCATION BOARD MOTION OF SYMPATHY TO RELATIVES

Tributes to the work and character: of the late Mr H. C. N. Watson, senior schools’ inspector, who died suddenly at MotUeka recently, were paid at today’s meeting of the Nelson Education Board when a motion of sympathy was passed tc- Mrs Watson and family members standing as a mark of respect, "It is With the deepest regret that I refer to the tragic demise of the sehior inspector! Mr H. C. N, Watson,” said the chairman (the Hon, W. H. Mclntyre). “I am sure it was a great shock to board members, the teachers and the public. Though Mr Watson waS with the board only a short time he had endeared himself to all with whom he came in contact. He had a gehiali kindly personality and had been of great assistance to the teachers. The Children loved to have him go into the schools, - and his death caused a great loss to the board. The more one knew Mr Watson, the more one liked him It must have been a great shock to his inspector colleague, Mr A. J. Woods, who left Nelson with him in the morhifig. ’ He moved that the board tehder to MrS Watson and family the deepest sympathy in the loss they had sustained. Mr J. H. HarknesS, in seconding the motion, said he had known Mr Watson for fourteen years, since the time when Mr Watson went to Westport to succeed the, speaker as headmaster of the Westport school. He put him down as one of the fairest men he had known. Mr Watson was extremely popular with the staff and public, and it had been With pleasure that he heard that Mr Watson was appointed to Nelson as senior inspector, The board, the Department, and NeW Zealand had suffered a loss through his death. Mr E. J. Soarttlebury s&id he had known Mr Watson at Westport. He Was sure the board, the teachers and the committees must have been pleased to have such a sympathetic senior inspector, and his death would be regretted throughout the board's area. He endorsed the 'remarks of the other speakers. The motion was then carried.
