ENGLISH TEST TEAM

TO MEET NEW ZEALANDERS CONFLICTING PREDICTIONS (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association) NOTTINGHAM, 18th June. There are conflicting predictions about the personnel of the English team for the first test against New Zealand. Critics seem unanimous about the choice of Barnett, Hammond, Leyland, Ames and Fames. A big body of opinion favours Hutton. There are divided views as to whether the other fast bowler will be Gover or Voce, and whether the left-hand slow bowler will be Langridge or Verity. Because of big scores some urge the claims of Parkes, but many critics advocate perseverance with HardstafT.

London writers favour Stephenson, but the.e is a claim in the north for picking Smailes and Paynter. Many advocates, especially after his successes against the tourists, seem agreed that the slow bowling will be left to Robins.

Although the New Zealanders have been disappointing there are so far 10,900 reservations for the test. With fine weather there will probably be the biggest crowd <af the tour.
