FRESH START

MARKETING BOARD FOR EMPIRE STABILISATION OF PRESENT ECONOMIC IMPROVEMENT STATEMENT BY MR W. ORMSBYGORE [British Oliicial Wireless] (Received 19th June, 2 p.m.) RUGBY, 18th June. . Mr W. Ormsby-Oore, Secretary of State for Colonies, in a speech, said that the economic situation of British colonies was improving beyond expectations. The Government’s regulation system had assisted this, but cooperation with foreign, as well as colonial producers, was also necessary. The international sugar agreement was the latest example of this co-operation. Referring to the loss which the colonial empire had suffered when the Empire Marketing Beard was abolished, Sir William Ormsby-Gore said that the Prime Minister, Mr Neville Chamberlain, had agreed to a fresh start being made with the Marketing Board for the colonial empire alone. This would help stabilise the present economic improve-, ment.
