12TH CENTURY TOWER

The Augusta Tower at Windsor is not known to the public. It is one of the external towers of the Inner Ward. Surrounding Hie Inner Ward are the private apartments oi the Sovereign and the Royal household, and visitors to the castle are not admitted. The Augusta Tower stands out boldly midway on the south terrace, and overlooks the Long Walk and the great stretch of open country which it traverses. The Tower, small and rectangular, is one of the oldest parts of Windsor Castle, dating from the 12th century.
