"KEPT IN THE DARK”

BETTER TREATMENT WANTED BY GOLDEN BAY BRANCH. OF R.S.A. COMPLAINT AGAINST NELSON BODY Although a motion to secede was defeated, the Golden Bay branch of the Nelson Returned Soldiers’ Association is not satisfied with the treatment accorded it by the parent body in Nelson, and at the annual meeting, the following' resolution was carried: ‘‘That the Nelson Association be advised that the Golden Bay branch is dissatisfied with the present position of the local subassociation, as affiliated to the Nelson body; and unless better treatment is accorded the Golden Bay branch, a separate association will be formed” (reports the “Golden Bay Times”). The president (Mr G. E. Boyes) said the time had arrived when action should be taken in regard to the position which obtained between the Nelson Association and Golden Bay. “We are not receiving information that should come to us,” he said, “and to my mind the formation of a separate association might be in the best interests of returned men in this district.” The speaker invited expressions of opinion on this subject.

Mr L. G. Roche said branches in other centres were kept fully posted with all matters affecting the movement, and if the parent association were not sufficiently interested, then Golden Bay should withdraw its affiliation.

A voice: “We have been kept in the dark long enough. Other branches think the same, loo!” At this stage a motion, sponsored by Mr A. Emms, that Golden Bay should secede from the Nelson Association, was put to the meeting and defeated. After further discussion in which the attitude of the Nelson Association was trenchantly criticised the motion expressing dissatisfaction was carried unanimously.
