MURCHISON NEWS
NEW ZEALAND LABOUR PARTY [From Our Own Correspondent] A meeting was held in the Oddfellows Hall during the week for the purpose of forming a Murchison Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. Mr C. Watson occupied the chair. Some time ago a meeting of those interested in the movement was called, and it was decided that a branch should be formed in Murchison as soon as possible. A provisional committee was set up, and application was made to the National Secretary for information concerning the necessary procedure to be followed. The outcome was the public meeting which was called by the provisional committee. After the objects of the meeting had been explained by the chairman, a motion was proposed by Mr J. L. Scott, “That a branch of the Labour Party be formed in Murchison, and that application for registration be made to the National Executive.” The motion was seconded by Mr J. Badcock, and was carried unanimously. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr C. Watson; vicepresident, Mr S. Borkin; secretarytreasurer, Mr J. L. Scott; committee, Messrs J. Kelling, J. Hayes, A. H. Moor, L. A. Mcßride, W. Borkin, A. Wilkinson and J. Badcock senior with power to add.
Several members of the Inangahua branch were present, and Mr Skinner informed the meeting that a branch of the L.R.C. would shortly be formed in the Motueka electorate, and it was desired that the Murchison branch should nominate a suitable date for the inaugurpl meeting. After discussion it was decided to recommend that the meeting be held in Reefton on Bth May. Mr J. L. Scott was elected as Murchison delegate to the L.R.C. A motion of thanks was accorded to the Inangahua branch for the valuable assistance they had rendered in the formation of the branch.
