NATIONAL SCHEME CO-OPERATION OF FRIENDLY SOCIETIES ADDRESS BY ACTING-PRIME MINISTER [By Telegraph—Press Association] WELLINGTON, This Day. Any steps taken in the direction of a national health insurance scheme would be taken with full recognition of the work and value of friendly societies in the Dominion, said the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, when addressing a conference of the Manchester Unity 1.0.0. F., which opened to-day. Mr Fraser said he could not imagine any such scheme that could set aside friendly societies or be carried into successful operation without their assistance.
The District Grand Master, Bro. J. L. Stewart, in an address said it was common knowledge that the society’s records were used as a basis for calculations upon the scheme being introduced in England, and they had every reason to believe the organisation would be made use of upon the inauguration of the scheme in New Zealand.
