OPIUM SMOKING AT PALMERSTON NORTH PREMISES RAIDED BY POLICE [By Telegraph—Press Association] PALMERSTON N„ This Day. Following a police raid last bight on premises in Main street, three Chihese appeared in the Magistrate’s Court, Yee Bas, gardener (46) and Ah Sung, gardener (51) charged with smoking opium and Joe Ming laundryman (35), charged with being found in possession of prepared opium and also, being the occupier of the premises, did permit such to be used for smoking opium. Pleas of guilty were entered. Yee Bas was fined £2O, Sutlg £l2 10s, and Ming £IOO for keeping the premises, the other charge being withdrawn.
