Seeking to eliminate the danger of ice formation on the wings, Imperial Airways have fitted experimental equipment on aDH 86 for tests. If successful it will be fitted to all Imperial Airways machines. The system embodies forcing a solution of etherynglycol through rubber tubes along the edges of the wings and struts then through vents to surfaces likely to be affected by ice. Imperial Airways are also experimenting with a new paste which can be applied to all surfaces, including propellers, preventing water freezing, by chemical action.
