FATHER DIVINE ARRESTED
HIDING IN BASEMENT HELD IN GAOL ON PENDING CHARGE [United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] NEW YORK, 22nd April. Father Divine who was "wanted” by the police on a charge of felonious assault, was arrested hiding in the basement of a residence at Milford, Connecticut. He was senl to gaol as a fugitive from justice, with a charge pending ntil the arrival of New Yoik detectives. He was unarmed and surrendered quietly. He declined to make a statement to the district attorney whom he urged should waive extradition and permit his Immediate return to face trial. WIFE DYING IN HOSPITAL NEW YORK, 22nd April. It is disclosed that Father Divines wife is dying in hospital of heart and kidney disease, "Faithful Mary" is paying the hospital bills. Meantime Father Divine’s followers ousted "Faithful Mary” from one of the tenements which she managed and refused to allow her to enter Father Divine’s "Kingdom of Heaven."
