RISE TO FAME

SINGER AND FILM STAR ONLY 14 YEARS OLD Seventeen famous doctors have examined her throat and all declare the mature development of her larynx at such an early age to be a miracle. Deanna Durbin was born Edna May Durbin in Winnipeg, Canada, 4th December, 1922. She was signed last year'by Metro to play Madame Schumann Heink as a young girl in a picture called “Gram.” When the veteran singer became ill, the picture was shelved. Luckily, Deanna was signed by Universal for “Three Smart Girls,” and since then has become a star. In Hollywood they tell you that Deanna’s salary has already reached the £3OO a week mark. Well, that’s not true. Deanna earns £3O a week at Universal studios. From her broadcasts with Eddie Cantor she receives an additional £3O.
